Meet the Author

Dallas executive Richard Lentz has gone to the dogs; particularly to his pet dachshund Roo. The unique and lovable dachshund became the inspiration for Richard’s first children’s book called Life’s Little Lessons by Roo, More Than Just A Dachshund. Roo became such a big part of Richard’s life he decided to write a second book, to chronicle his final memories with his insightful companion. It’s called Roo—The Journey Continues.

The books reflect a life journey through the eyes of Roo, a miniature dachshund. Roo’s experiences are filled with many emotions, trials and tribulations just as people encounter. Roo meets all of these experiences head-on while sharing his thoughts and lessons learned with his readers, which may possibly help them through their similar situations. Readers young and old can experience life’s roller coaster ride with Roo. He will have you laughing, crying, and contemplating all along the way.

As Roo became older, and eventually passed, Richard decided to complete the journey with a companion book.

As founder and CEO of his 35+ year-old landscape lighting company, Lentz Landscape Lighting, Richard said finding time to dedicate to writing this book was difficult but important.

Frequently Asked Questions of Roo

How old is Roo?
Roo is seven years old with the energy of a two year old and the wisdom of a 14 year old.
What is his favoite treat?
A low-calorie duck and sweet potato biscuit.
What is his favorite toy?
Any ball with or without a squeaker. He just needs someone to throw it. For hours.
Does Roo behave like a regular dachshund?
Dachshunds are very proud and think they are bigger than their actual size. That describes Roo perfectly.
What is his favorite people food scraps?
The skin from grilled fish or baked potato skin.
Is he and Heidi getting along?
They have become inseparable. They have their possessive and jealous moments, but overall they love one another’s companionship.
Is he afraid of anything?
Even though he thinks he is is really tough, Roo is afraid of his shadow. A leaf blowing in the wind can be extremely frightening.
Does he ever get in trouble?
Rarely. He is extremely intelligent and knows right from wrong. He knows when Heidi has messed up because he looks at his parents with a smirk and knowing nod.
Will there be another book?
Depends on the response. Roo has been making notes on new lessons he has learned and would like to continue, but does not want to come across as a know-it-all.
Does he make appearances at book signings?
Yes. His book signings will be posted on the website. If you are not in Dallas, let us know where and if there is enough interest he might just be willing to make a road trip.
